Richard U. De Schutter
Chairman, President and CEO
Richard U. De Schutter was elected to the position of Chairman of the
Board and Chief Executive Officer of Searle in 1994, and assumed those
responsibilities in April 1995.
In October 1997, De Schutter was also elected Vice Chairman of
Monsanto and member of the Board where he had served previously as
an advisory director. He also sits on the Board of the
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America; is a member of
the Board of Trustees of Northwestern University; a member of the
board of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare where he additionally
serves as chairman of Research Institute; and is a director of the
Chicago based General Binding Corporation.

Philip Needleman
President, Research and Development
Philip Needleman, Ph.D., was appointed President, Research and Development for Searle in
1993. He has worldwide responsibility for Searle's R & D activities. In addition, he
continues his role as Chief Scientist for Monsanto and an Advisory Director on the Monsanto
Board, where he serves as principal advisor on scientific matters.

Alan L. Heller
Chief Operating Officer
Alan L. Heller was appointed Chief Operating Officer for Searle in 1997. He is responsible
for all of the company's commercial operations, including sales, marketing, medical affairs,
manufacturing and product planning on a worldwide basis. Prior to that appointment, he served
as Searle's President of the Americas.

Robert L. Bogomolny
Corporate Senior Vice President,
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Robert L. Bogomolny was appointed Corporate Senior Vice President, General Counsel and
Corporate Secretary for Searle in 1987. He is responsible for
overseeing all of the company's legal matters, including supervision of the general
legal, patents, and trademarks and litigation groups. In addition, he oversees
Quality Assurance and Public Affairs.

Kim Cysewski
Vice President, Strategic Communications
Kim Cysewski was named Vice President of Strategic Communications in
1996. In this capacity, she is responsible for the company's global
internal communications.

Mike Ford
President, Europe/Africa
Mike Ford, based in the United Kingdom, is President of Searle's Europe/Africa World Area. With Germany,
France, Italy, the U.K. and Spain, the area includes five of the top-ten pharmaceutical markets. He has served
in this capacity since 1995.

Ann K. M. Gualtieri
Corporate Vice President, Human Resources
Ann Gualtieri, Ph.D., was appointed Corporate Vice President of Human Resources at Searle in 1996. She has oversight responsibility for Searle people systems and human-resource functions worldwide.

Jack Michelson
Corporate Senior Vice President and
President, Technical Operations
Jack Michelson was named President, Technical Operations for Searle in 1993 and Corporate Senior Vice President in 1996. He is responsible for Searle's worldwide manufacturing and quality assurance operations as well as support services, which include procurement, distribution, strategic sourcing, engineering, and pharmaceutical technology.

Bruce R. Sents
President, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Canada World Areas
Bruce R. Sents was appointed President, Asia Pacific, Latin America,
Canada world areas in 1997 and is responsible for pharmaceutical
operations in those regions. He has 22 years of experience with Searle
and Monsanto in financial, business development and operational
positions.
